ST. PETERSBURG, May 31 /TASS/. Nine people have been injured in a fire downtown St. Petersburg, according to preliminary reports of the Russian Interior Ministry department for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.
"Nine people are hurt according to preliminary reports," the department’s source told TASS on Sunday refraining from giving possible versions.
A fire broke out in a six-storeyed building on 10, Bolshaya Konyushennaya in the centre of St. Petersburg on Saturday night. It was assigned the second degree of gravity. Sixty-four emergency workers and 15 vehicles are fighting the flames which have spread to an area of 150 square metres.
According to preliminary reports, the building is a dwelling house. However, according to open sources, it also has a three-star hotel and several shops. The fire has blocked traffic on the adjacent Nevsky Prospect, witnesses told TASS.
