MOSCOW, May 9. /TASS/. The UN’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he will discuss at a meeting with President Putin, due later on Saturday, settlement of the crisis in Syria.
"With President Putin I’d like, first of all, to discuss how Russia as one of the permanent members of the Security Council can contribute to the ending of the conflict in Syria," he said in an exclusive interview with TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman on Saturday.
He stressed, the conflict in Syria continues for the fifth year now, and dozens of thousands of people died, and twelve million have been affected.
"These people need urgent humanitarian assistance, all the infrastructure has been destroyed, and we have at least four million people who have become refugees and been accommodated in neighbouring countries," he said.
"We have to put an end. There must be a political solution based on the Geneva communique," Ban Ki-moon said.
He also said the agenda of the upcoming meeting with the Russian president is very big and includes the situation in Ukraine.
