Russian plane evacuating people from Yemen lands in Moscow

AIRPORT CHKALOVSKY /Moscow Region/, April 23. /TASS/. Russian plane evacuating Russian and foreign nationals from Yemen landed at the Chkalovsky airport outside Moscow in the small hours on Thursday.

This is the ninth Russia plane that evacuated people from war-torn Yemen. The Ilyushin Il-62 plane has evacuated 160 people, including citizens of Uzbekistan, Cuba, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.

Earlier on Thursday, another Il-62 plane evacuated 160 people - citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Yemen and the United States.

After medical, passport and customs procedures, these people will be taken by buses to the Russian foreign ministry’s evacuation centre, where they will meet with diplomats from their countries. Those who plan to reach other destinations will be taken to Moscow’s airports.

Since early April, Moscow has evacuated more than 1,000 citizens of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other countries, including the United States. Around 900 people were evacuated from Sana’a and the seaport city of Aden on April 2 and April 4 by six flights to the Chkalovsky air base, outside Moscow.

On April 12, the Priazovye vessel of Russia’s Navy brought another 320 people, including 18 US citizens, from Aden to Djibouti. All the Russian citizens were flown from Djibouti to Moscow by two Il-62 aircraft on April 12-13.
