DONETSK, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - The elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic are the foundation for further development in the region, Anatoly Bibilov, speaker of the South-Ossetian parliament, said Monday.

“The holding of elections has become the basis for further development in the Donetsk People’s Republic in political and economic terms,” said Bibilov, who is currently in Donetsk, having acted as an observer during the Sunday elections.

“South Ossetia has recognized the Donetsk People’s Republic and we care about the development of this brotherly republic,” the South Ossetian parliament speaker added. South Ossetia is a partially recognized state located in the South Caucasus.

Residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine established people's republics that later declared independence following a February coup in Kiev. The republics are not recognized by Kiev authorities.

On Sunday, the self-proclaimed republics held elections of the heads of the local governments and representatives of the legislative bodies.
