Kiev Intends to Cancel Agreement With Russia on Construction of Kerch Strait Bridge

KIEV, September 30 (RIA Novosti) – The Ukrainian government plans to consider Wednesday the termination of the agreement with Russia on the joint construction of transport crossing across the Kerch Strait, the statement on the Ukrainian government website said Tuesday.


"On termination of the agreement between the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and the government of the Russian Federation on joint actions regarding the construction of transport crossing across the Kerch Strait," the agenda of the Cabinet meeting read.


Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Maksym Burbak is going to report on this issue at the meeting of the Cabinet.


A bridge crossing the Kerch Strait proposed by the Russian government, is due to be constructed by 2018-2020. The project's cost can exceed 228 billion rubles ($5.9 billion). It will include a road with four lanes of traffic, as well as a two-track railway. The length of the crossing will be about 19 kilometers (11.8 miles). In September, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov reported that a single contractor for building the bridge would be chosen by the authorities in a month.
