MOSCOW, July 2 (RIA Novosti) –Anatoly Klyan, the cameraman from Russia’s Channel-1 television station that was fatally shot in Ukraine, was awarded the Order of Courage posthumously, the Kremlin press service said Wednesday.
“By the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Klyan Anatoly Sergeevich, cameraman of Channel-1 Public Joint Stock Company in the city of Moscow has been awarded the Order of Courage for courage and bravery in carrying out his professional duties,” according to the statement.
This Wednesday, Moscow is paying its respects to the 68-year-old journalist, who came under gunfire late on June 29, with his colleagues from other channels. The journalist sustained a wound to his stomach in an attack by Ukrainian Special Forces in the Donetsk Region and died as he was being rushed to the hospital.
This is not the first time a Russian journalist has died in the crisis-hit country.
Earlier in June, two employees of Russia’s state-run VGTRK media holding lost their lives in a mortar attack near the Ukrainian city of Luhansk. They were also awarded the Order of Courage.
