MOSCOW, April 25 (RIA Novosti) – An international border between Ukraine and the Russian republic of Crimea has been established and the rules for its crossing will come into effect Friday, a Russian border official has said.
"The state border opens April 25, in the nearest future we will decide, where the checkpoints will be installed, what are the rules for the crossing of the border. We will also determine if there is a need for issuing migration cards," said Pyotr Yarosh, acting head of the Federal Migration Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea.
The border patrol is now monitoring 27 checkpoints. There are no restrictions on the movement of vehicles and shipments. Meanwhile, the republic's authorities have promised to disclose in the near future the information about the rules of crossing the state border, in accordance with Russian law.
Crimea and Sevastopol, formerly part of Ukraine, became Russian regions following a March 16 referendum, with the overwhelming majority of residents voting for reunification with Russia.
