Attacking the Imaginary Enemy

2013/04/30

We are on the training ground of the Primorye Region of Russia to see how marines of the Pacific Fleet conduct battalion tactical exercises with live fire.

They had to defense “their” coast from sea landing of the imaginary enemy.

According to the training plan the enemy is attacking from the sea.

Separate air assault battalion completed the task of the secretive advance to the area.

Black berets created three lines of defense.

Such a device is used for artillery fire control.

The first offensive stroke is made by the battery of 122-mm self-propelled gun systems “Carnation”.

It’s not easy to hit such a target but the “Carnations” successfully perform the task.

The commanders are making necessary adjustments and setting goals.

Next “fire” command!

Smokescreen provides covering for the troops and they change their position.

Mortar battery leaves the first line.

Marines, using all their firepower, were trying to hinder the marines and airborne assault.

Infantry forces are coming.

On the second line of defence they wait for the infantry forces to leave the dangerous zone.

Ready for the fire!

Portable anti-aircraft missile system 9K338 “Igla-S” is designed to hit low-flying targets of different types.

The enemy was welcomed the way it deserved! The RPG-7 and 82 mm mortars produced a flurry of shots.

The third line of defence.

The anti-tank missile complexes “Fagot” are preparing to attack the remaining forces of the imaginary enemy.

“Fagot” is the Russian portable anti-tank missile system with semi-automatic command guidance on the wire.

The marines are approaching the enemy having left the battery of the 82 mm battalion mortars behind.

And here’s when the war started!

The defete of the enemy is almost complete.

The gunners are going back under the cover of the mortar men.

The mortar men.

The way back.

For the tactical exercises there were used more than 300 marine soldiers of the Pacific Fleet, about thirty units of special military equipment (122 mm self-propelled artillery systems “Carnation”, 82 mm battalion mortars, complexes of anti-tank guided missiles “Fagot”).
