Testing Aircraft Glazing In Russia



We are in Obninsk, Russia, to see how they test aircraft and locomotive glazing there for resistance to bird strikes and other impacts.







This is the glazing of Ka-62 helicopter.



And this system is for test shooting. It is mounted on the anti-aircraft gun carriage made in 1954.



Gun length – twelve meters.



The system itself was made in 1971 in Kasnoznamensk, Russia.



Pneumatic launching device Pu-132.



The gun is powered by air and shoots with compressed air.



Two air receivers from a submarine are used. They can provide pressure of 400 atms, but certified for 30 which is enough to achieve speed of about 1200-1300 km/h.



Inner diameter of the barrel is 132 mm, shell mass – up to 2 kg.
