2014/06/24

MOSCOW, June 24 (RIA Novosti) – The number of Ukrainian refugees accommodated in temporary settlements in Russia has risen to 14,300 people in the past 24 hours, a source in the Russian law enforcement agencies told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

“All the temporary accommodation settlements have so far taken in 14,300 people. Just a day earlier this total stood at 12,800 refugees,” the source reported.

Since June refugees from the south-east of Ukraine have been coming to Russia, in particular the Rostov region along the border.

According to the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry, more than ten regions of Russia are currently actively taking in the Ukrainian refugees. Most of those who fled the country are accommodated in the Rostov region and Crimea.

Currently, the seven border regions accommodate more than 18,000 people forced to leave Ukraine. Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry organized an "air bridge" to evacuate the refugees to other regions, where temporary shelters have been prepared for them, including tent camps.
